i shot this on june 6th, 2018. i told my girls they can wear any outfit they like, and we spent the afternoon venturing around soHo, little italy, and chinatown. the shoot was based out of love for ourselves & how women should always be praised. our differences bring us closer as a group because we are all special in our own ways. -Tiff
WHAT DOES BEING A WOMAN MEAN TO YOU?
AILEEN: "Being a woman to me means beauty, being life & being love. All that comes with a woman is beautiful from the ways she can love man & earth, to the ways she gives life. Being a woman is empowering and I believe women are way tougher than men. We go through so much yet we’re also more emotional and sensitive than men. We know the balance to things and that’s why the world needs women. We literally run the world and having us here is what keeps things in check. From fighting for women equality still till this day and to taking bullets that life throws at us, underrating us, I don’t think I could be any happier with the person I was born as. Women are beautiful and delicate just like flowers, you just have to raise us right and we bloom into gorgeous beings, not just from the outside but most importantly from the inside. We give back to the universe the knowledge and affection we’ve learned and grew with during our womanhood, like Maya Angelou said, women are just phenomenal.
VAL: Being a woman means being strong, because you’ll find that your womanhood will need that strength, and when you let it , sometimes that powerful forte will even find you. When you’re a woman, you take full responsibility and leadership for your life.However, in the society that we live in today we are forced to become a strong woman at a very young age because of how they portray us.I enjoy being a woman and I enjoy being the woman I am today.🦋
CHINA: Being a woman is a gift. We go through pains we only know. We give birth and tolerate so much more. We have the power to change the world and the day a bad ass woman does it.. its over for all of the machismo. We are smarter and capable of doing things better than men and I also agree that we keep the universe in balance. Like Val said: I enjoy being a women. I’m in love with the women I am today and the women I’ll be in the future.
ASTRID: Being a woman to me means being fearless, independent and strong. Being able to call myself my own, rather than someone society has expected me to be. Being able to create a life for myself, instead of depending on anyone to do so for me. Being able to be as I am without ever feeling guilty about it. There was a time where society associated “women” with weakness and I like to believe we’ve revolutionized prior beliefs by simply being ourselves. With womanhood comes power and with power comes intimidation. We are a force that shouldn’t be reckoned with and I love that. I love women and I love myself for being one.
NOEMI: Being a woman: To me being a woman is being human of course but, recognizing the complexity that it comes with. Titles... unfortunately we limit ourself to be a kind of woman when we are much more than being exquisite, intelligent, firm or negative comments such as being whores crazy or too much etc etc. There is no settle answer of what a woman can be because the true question is what CAN’T a woman be? Being a woman is being ready for what life has to offer or the challenges we come across as we go through its journey. Since childhood we have responsibilities no matter how little or big they are it defines us also, they teach us to act a certain way as if to be woman is to “sit properly”, “act like a lady”, “us your indoor voice” but being a woman is being WHO YOU are WHO YOU choose to be as a woman there is no true version of what a woman is because we are all different but we are still woman. Being woman is being life 1) because we bring life 2) because without us it’s like earth without water and how much does that makes up earth? Well 96.5% of it.
